A weekend with our reading buddies

On Saturday morning, a dozen university students arrived with armfuls of picture books and a lot of patience.

What followed was the best kind of noise — giggles, gasps at plot twists, and small fingers tracing words. By lunch, several of our youngest had read aloud for the first time.

Our volunteers say they leave more energised than they arrived. We believe them.
